The jungle fowl which is the national bird of Sri Lanka belongs to Phasianidae class amd the glliformes….. The scientific name is Gallaus lafayetti In tamil it is called kattu Koli It ha been included in to the list of the endemic birds of Sri Lanka in the past. It proved by reports of captain Vincent leg 1880 James Muri (1890)W.E wet (1931),W.W.A Pmlips(1952)
Identification
Jungle fowl is smaller than a cock It s beak is brownish red in colour It has a beauty ful………..the …… is red colonr with a yellow patch in the middle the feat hers are black and dark brown in colour wmle the shining with purplc colour. Near the tatl there are qreen coloured feathers
There is a sharp claws on t its legs three toes in its iegs are in front and the other one turns to back.a grown up jungle fowl is nearly ikg of weight female jungle fowl is smaller than a male jnungle fowl while not pretty as the male ones female one is brown in colour and the re are white feathers in the below parts there are golden yellow colour feathers among the wings

Nature :-

Jungle fowl is a fighting bird when the one bird died the fight was over. At the dawn and in the evening after the sun set we can hear its craws It cannot fly very far. When there is a danger mother fowl makes a signal and the chicks hide wherever they are safe.the male jungle fowl prefers to live alone while the female one always with its kids.
Food and reproduction:-
female folw lays eggs under a tree or a bush,decaying log or a pit that it makes. At the beginning of the year during February to may tendency of laying eggs is increasing during august to september it also lays eggs. Eggs are yellow in colour with the shining of reddish brown colour. It lays 2-4 eggs at a time. They are size of 48 x55 mm.when theymove among the bushes they come aeross worms.grain insects and grain of grass as food. It also eats died body parts of the animals and fruits. Conservation:-
The jungle fowls are being huntered. The dogs hunt them and the dest ruction of the fonest are the problems to reduce this bird population
Another challenge is the mixing of the gcnes with the cocks and reproduce the different species.it is a very dangerous tendency.
